This week the baby and I travelled to one of my favorite places, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. My family has been visiting Hilton Head since I was a baby, and to make up for the fact that we didn't go this summer, my parents planned a week in Hilton Head in October. Unfortunately, neither of my sisters or Brian could go this year, but I gladly tagged along.

Thankfully the weather was absolutely gorgeous! You never know what to expect in October, but the first few days that we were on vacation the temperatures were in the mid-80's and it felt like summer. Later in the week the temperatures got a bit cooler, but it was still sunny and in the high 70's, perfect beach weather.

I spent the majority of my days on a lounge chair, reading by the pool. Of course I also swam and drank my weight (or at least the baby's weight) in tropical drinks from Pool Bar Jim's. The photo below is a Banana Mango Frost with Strawberry Puree. Delicious, and made with fresh fruit!

Highlights from this week included more and more kicking from the baby! The movement isn't constant, some days I feel just a few kicks here and there, and other days I feel a ton of little kicks and punches. I normally feel movement when I am sitting down, relaxing or eating. I also purchased some long-sleeve maternity shirts while in Hilton Head because there were a few sales at Motherhood Maternity. I've been trying not to go crazy with maternity clothes shopping, but there's no doubt that being pregnant in the winter requires maternity wear. I need to buy a winter coat, but I'm holding out and planning to buy a cheap one.

Here's what's happening with Baby Riley this week:

  • Baby Riley is about 11 inches long and the size of a spaghetti squash
  • The lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct and he or she is developing tiny tooth buds beneath the gums
  • Baby's eyes are formed but the irises don't have any pigment yet

And what's happening with me:

Weight Gained: Feels like a ton, but I'm assuming that it's somewhere around 12 pounds.

Favorite Moment: I still love feeling the baby move. I'm really hoping that his or her kicks get a bit stronger so that Brian can feel them when we get back from Hilton Head!

Workouts: I didn't spend too much time in the gym since I was enjoying my time on the beach. I did go on a beach walk almost every day and also made it to the gym most days to do about 20-30 minutes of weights and core-work.

Symptoms: I occasionally feel tightness around my uterus when I am working out on the elliptical or walking. On the days that it bothers me, I take it easy because it's not very comfortable. Thankfully it usually doesn't last very long and subsides once I stop walking. I'm assuming that it's round ligament pains.

Food Aversions/Cravings: Give me all the tropical drinks!!!! I also had my fill of pumpernickel bread sandwiches during vacation. For some reason I only buy pumpernickel during vacations in Hilton Head, but I think that I should buy it more often because I love it.

Sleep: I still frequently wake up with tingling/numb hands, but other than that I have been sleeping well.

Looking forward to: Seeing Brian when we get back from Hilton Head!
