28 Weeks: Doctor's Appointment & Kick Counts

28weekspregnant

Now that we're officially in the third trimester we'll be visiting the doctor every 2 weeks until the last month (when we will switch to weekly appointments). Our 28 week appointment went well. My doctor measured my fundal height (the size of the uterus) for the first time and she said that we were right on track. I hadn't gained much weight since our last appointment at 25 weeks, but she said that she was sure I would catch up over the holidays.

Last week I did get a little anxious when I convinced myself that I hadn't felt the baby move for a whole day. Instead of immediately calling the doctor, I lay down that evening and tried to count how many kicks I could feel (and thankfully I did feel the baby move a few times). Our doctor confirmed that I had done the right thing. She said that ideally I would be able to feel 10 kicks every hour, or at least 10 kicks every 2 hours.

In terms of the nursery and baby gear, we received our brand new Uppababy Vista 2015 in the mail the other day. I'm a little too excited about this stroller! For now, we're keeping it in the box, but I did convince Brian to let me open up the bassinet and take a look.

I also had a few moments of "Pregnancy Brain" last week. I left my cell phone in a cab on Thursday night after dinner (I didn't even realize that it had fallen out of my purse), and then I took the wrong subway line into Queens and had to backtrack (I finally arrived at lunch 45 minutes late). Thankfully (or miraculously) my cell phone was found by a very nice girl who happened to work near our apartment so I was able to pick up the phone the very next day.

And now on to what the baby has been up to this week!

Here's what's happening with Baby Riley this week:

  • Baby Riley is the size of an eggplant (my favorite vegetable!!!!)
  • He or she is weighing in at 2.25 pounds and measures 14.8 inches from head to heel
  • He or she now has eye lashes and can blink. The baby may even be able to see light that filters through the womb.
  • He or she continues to put on more baby fat:)

And what's happening with me:

Weight Gained: According to the scale at my doctor's office, I've gained only 2 pounds since my last appointment, putting me at about 15.5 pounds of total weight gain since our 11 week appointment

Favorite Moment: Feeling the baby kick and move. Occasionally the baby will be in a position where I can feel it's back (or possibly butt). We joke that the baby is shy because whenever we press into that spot, the baby immediately moves.

Workouts: Still moving! I'm getting to the gym 5-6 days a week and using the TRX suspension cables. I also swam again this week, but I'm worried that my body is over-heating in the pool because my face was red and I had a weird rash on my arms when I got out, so I'm not sure that I'll be able to keep that up.

Symptoms: I still experience the occasional Braxton-Hicks contractions (or possibly round ligament pains). As soon as I stop walking, the pain goes away so I'm not too worried but I do try to take it easy when I do feel any pain.

Food Aversions/Cravings: I'm not sure about official cravings, but I loved our pizza dinner on Saturday night! I also coerced Brian into letting me make homemade Buttermilk Buckwheat pancakes for breakfast on Saturday.

Sleep: I slept well this week, no back pain!

Looking forward to: Thanksgiving!!!!!
