We made it to the 2nd Trimester! The first trimester, especially the first few weeks seemed to drag on. I was excited, but also nervous that something could go wrong. But the last few weeks have really flown by, and I realized last night that we're just 6 short months away from our due date. Crazy!
This week was especially fun because we finally told all of our friends that we are pregnant. We had really limited the number of people that we told in the first trimester because we wanted to get through the first trimester screenings. Now that our chances of miscarriage are much lower, we felt more comfortable sharing our news with everyone.
Here's what's happening with Baby Riley this week:
- Baby Riley is the size of a lemon this week
- Facial muscles are forming and our baby can squint, grimace, pee (?!) and hopefully smile!
- Baby Riley's limbs are lengthening and beginning to grow to their correct proportions
- Lunago, a fine covering of hair, is forming on his/her body
- The liver is beginning to produce bile
And what's happening with me:
Weight Gained: I think that I'm finally beginning to see some changes. I don't have a bump, but I just feel bigger (read: chubbier).
Maternity Clothes: Still wearing regular clothes, mostly summer dresses that are loose and a few pairs of shorts.
Workouts: After a few weeks of really feeling like I was making improvements, I developed a twinge in my butt area (my trainer is telling me that I have an impingement of the piriformis (aka a real pain in the butt)). It doesn't bother me all the time, but the pain comes in waves and is very uncomfortable when it hits. I've been staying off the treadmill but trying to keep up with my strength training and core exercises, neither of which seem to cause me any pain.
Symptoms: In general, I feel good, but on Friday I felt uncomfortable all day and also had some strange twinges (which may have been Round Ligament Pains). I also felt nauseous one morning this week.
Food Aversions: No food aversions this week that I can think of.
Food Cravings: I've had a number of dinners with friends this week, so I've been eating everything from roasted salmon, to queso fundido, to homemade eggplant parmesan.
Sleep: Still sleeping well! But I have a feeling that will change in the next few weeks when I can no longer sleep on my stomach.
Looking Forward to: My growing bump, can't wait to see something more noticeable and round! (i.e. not rolls)
