Life with Arthur: 5 Months

Dear Arthur,

Can we please slow down time? You are nearly half a year old and in a few weeks you will be starting solids. I'm not ready!!!

Your biggest milestone this month was consistently lifting your head at tummy time. One day you just got it, and you have been lifting your head and propping yourself up on your elbows ever since then.

You also rolled over from tummy to back for the first time on June 12th! You had woken up very early in the morning (I should add too early) and your dad was playing with you before he went to work. He screamed out loud and woke me up when you rolled over, but it was worth it to see the excitement on your dad's face. You rolled over a few times that morning and a few more times over the next week or so, but lately you've been taking a break. Did you forget how to do it?!

You have also taken scooting to new levels. You literally scooted 360 degrees around your mat one day, lifting your butt and wiggling the whole way. Your dad and I were laughing watching you. You are quite the little wiggle worm!

It doesn't take much effort to get you to laugh and smile these days. Your dad likes to play airplane with you (he calls it Air Arthur) and you smile every time. Your grandfather Po Po also invented a new game where we throw your arms out wide and say "so much" in a funny voice. For example, "Arthur loves his Po Po SO MUCH".

I would love to say that you haven't even noticed the TV, but it turns out that you love it! We first discovered your fascination with TV at your grandparent's house in New Jersey. Your dad is convinced that sports are your favorite things to watch, I'm not so sure.

You traveled to New Jersey again this month for your first Father's Day and for your Gammy's 60th birthday. We both surprised your dad by making him a bowl with your footprints on it. He loves it!

Sleeping has taken a turn for the worse. You definitely had a 4 month sleep regression. You are now waking up earlier in the morning (between 5 and 6:30am) and you have had a number of night waking episodes which require us to get up and rock you or give you a pacifier multiple times a night. I'm tired! After a particularly bad evening at your grandparent's house, your dad and I decided to put you into your Merlin Magic Sleepsuit at night too (you were in your Halo sack), and that seems to have done the trick for the most part. You are still waking up earlier in the morning, but I can live with that. Blackout blinds may be next on my list of purchases for you! In the meantime, I usually bring you into bed with me when you wake up too early so that both of us can go back to sleep for a little while.

Unfortunately you got sick for the very first time this month. I had to take you to the doctor for a sick visit on June 12th (oddly the same morning that you rolled over from tummy to back) because you were very congested and coughing all the time. Your usual doctor was not in the office, so we had a different doctor come look at you. He was very thorough. While he checked you out, you destroyed the paper on the table (see below).

We ended up staying at the doctor for 2 hours and you had your blood taken, an oxygen saturation test (you passed with 99%!), a nose swab test for Whooping Cough, and your ears checked (which you hated). I felt so sorry for you. You were such a trooper and were still smiling and happy even when you were sick. Thankfully your cold went away on its own and all of the tests came back negative.

We took our first ever class together this month. It is called Rock n' Roll Babies an we had a lot of fun, especially me. Your favorite part of class was watching the bubbles and you also enjoyed looking at the musicians and all of the other babies in the class. Your dad was also able to come to one of the sessions, and despite the picture below you had fun.

Your 5 month checkup went well, but your doctor has said that she would like you to roll over by 6 months! You continue to grow rapidly. Your weight was 15 pounds, 13 ounces (you were 14 pounds, 12 ounces at your 4 month appointment), and your height was 26.19 inches. You are above the 55th percentile for height and 32% for weight. Your head size is apparently on the smaller size, but you would never know by looking at you!

I say this every month, but you make every day so much fun. I love your smiles and your laughs and seeing how excited you get when you see me.
